The UK Next Wave Genre Lab is an innovative development initiative delivered by Film Constellation, Maskoon Fantastic Film Festival, Tatino Films, through the BFI Creative Challenge Fund, made possible with National Lottery funding. This programme is dedicated to UK-based writers, directors and producers working on their first, second, or third feature film with a strong emphasis on genre films, including horror, thriller, fantasy, science fiction, and action-led projects.

The programme is open to UK-based teams of writer and/or director and producers working on genre films.

A total of 12 projects will be selected for the first part of the Lab that takes place online. After the initial phase, 5 projects will be chosen to advance to the next round, which includes the Cardiff workshop and a Pop Up Film Residency abroad.

Participation in the UK Next Wave Genre Lab is free of charge, and thanks to the support of the BFI Creative Challenge fund, a modest stipend will be provided to all participants.
